Meet new people and get behind the scenes!

Volunteer at an event and you'll get to run in the same event (or a future one) for FREE! You'll also get two t-shirts, a beer (if of legal drinking age), and the opportunity to be a part of the action on race day! Volunteer registration opens around 40 days prior to each event and fills up quickly so check the schedule below and mark your calendar! Once registration is open, simply click the "Volunteer" button below and select either the AM or PM volunteer shift. We require a $50 deposit to reserve your spot, but we'll return the entire amount if you complete your volunteer shift at the event. This deposit helps us reduce no-shows, and ensures that these very important positions are filled on race day with the most dedicated Maniacs!


AM SHIFT

Volunteer in the morning and then run for free in the afternoon (or at a future event). Arrive at 8 a.m. to check-in and get oriented. We'll then assign you a position in the check-in tent, in the festival area, or on the course. If possible, we'll assign groups of friends to the same area. Once your shift is over around 1 p.m. you'll be able to run the course at whatever time you want (even if it's sold out)! Alternatively, you can save your free registration for a future event.

PM SHIFT

Volunteer in the afternoon and you'll get to run for free in the morning (or at a future event). If running in the morning, arrive by 9 a.m. to register to run. You can run in any wave before 10:15 a.m., even if it's sold out! Alternatively, you can save your free registration for a future event. Return to the check-in tent by the assigned check-in time, and we'll assign you a position in the check-in tent, in the festival area, or on the course. If possible, we'll assign groups of friends to the same area.


When Can I Sign Up?

Volunteer registration will open on the dates listed in the dropdown menu below at 9:00 a.m. (local time). Be sure to mark your calendar as spots usually sell out within hours!

I want to Volunteer. How do I sign up?

Volunteer registration opens around 40 days prior to each event and fills up quickly so check the schedule above and mark your calendar! We require a $50 non-refundable deposit to reserve your spot, but we'll return the entire amount after you complete our volunteer shift at the event. I'm not sure I can make it. How do I cancel my registration?

Volunteers play important roles at the events so it's important that everyone who registers to volunteer actually shows up. Please don't register unless you're 100% certain you can make it to the event! If you sign up and then decide you can't (or don't want to) volunteer, you'll lose your $50 deposit, even if it's caused by something outside of your control like illness or unexpected work schedule changes. After all, the purpose of the deposit is to ensure that only those who are committed to volunteering, regardless of what may come up, get the opportunity to do so. However, you can still get your deposit back if you find someone to complete your shift in your place. Simply transfer your registration by clicking the link at the bottom of the confirmation email you received after registering.

If I pay for a participant registration now, can I get a refund if I register as a volunteer once volunteer registration opens?

No. As stated very clearly during online registration, we do not provide refunds for any reason other than event cancellation. If you've already bought a participant registration and want to volunteer instead, you can transfer your registration to someone else via the online registration system prior to the online registration cutoff date, or on site at the event with a copy of your photo ID (print or digital).
