With varying levels of stay-at-home orders still in place for much of the country, many of us are trying to find ways to stay motivated while staying home. Spending so much time indoors with little change from day-to-day can be draining, so it’s important to prioritize both physical and mental health during this time. Here are some tips to help keep you moving. Focus on Health The upside of staying home means many of us have a little extra time these days. This can be put to good use by allowing you to focus more on your health than you otherwise might. Interested in upping your nutrition game? This is the perfect time to ditch the take-out and cook some healthy meals! Want to learn more about your body and natural rhythms? Many health and fitness apps can track your activity, sleep and more, which can help you better understand why you may be feeling a certain way. Feeling like you’re lacking vitamin D and want to get outside in the fresh air? You can often remain socially-distant outdoors. Hit the trails at your local park or take a long bike ride through your city. Just make sure to follow your local COVID-19 regulations. Establish Routines Did you used to have a more defined daily routine before self-isolation efforts took effect? Even though you may no longer have a morning commute or regular happy hours with your friends, you can still find other ways to bring back a sense of normalcy to your days by establishing new routines. These can be as simple as waking up at the same time every morning, to joining a weekly virtual fitness class with your friends. Stay Active Staying active benefits both your mind and body. Working up a daily sweat is not only key to keeping you healthy physically, it can also give you a little endorphin boost to help keep your spirits high! Even if you find yourself unable to exercise as much or at the same intensity level as you previously did, every little bit counts. Following our weekly at-home workout plans is a great way to help you stay moving on a daily basis. And, going back to our previous tip, completing these workouts definitely qualifies as a routine! Not to mention, they’ll help you stay in shape so you’ll be ready to tackle your Rugged Maniac race once we can all get back out on the course. Set Goals Keeping up with a fitness routine is a whole lot easier when you have something you’re working towards. For many of us, that goal is often our next race. With so many event cancelations taking place, it’s hard to plan for the future. However, many virtual races are now available, including our own Rugged Maniac Virtual Fitness Challenge. A virtual challenge can be the perfect goal to work towards since you don’t have to leave your house to complete it. With the ability to submit your time online for our virtual challenge, you can even compete against your friends and the Rugged Maniac community! Not only can this help motivate you to push yourself and stay accountable, it can also help you stay connected with others. Ultimately, it’s always good to remember that it’s impossible to stay motivated 100 percent of the time. Taking a moment to simply relax is sometimes the best thing for us, and there’s no time like the present to stay home, take it easy and recharge.
